General Directions

Works best on smooth fabrics. Pre-wash and dry all materials without fabric softener. Please note, application of HeatnBond Liquid Vinyl may slightly alter fabric’s original appearance. For best results, always pre-test before starting project.

Protect workspace with a non-stick surface such as HeatnBond Pressing Paper, parchment paper or a silicone craft mat.

  1. Paint on a thin layer of Liquid Vinyl using a soft-bristled paintbrush or foam brush; rinse brush and wipe off rim of jar before recapping.
  2. Let fabric dry 30-45 minutes.
  3. Preheat iron to medium heat, no steam.
  4. Place fabric on top of parchment paper or non-stick pressing sheet on a firm, heat-proof surface (not an ironing board) and cover with HeatnBond Pressing Paper. Press for 45 seconds, moving iron slightly. For larger pieces, slightly overlap areas until entire surface has been pressed.
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4 to apply additional coats of Liquid Vinyl, pressing after each coat.

Once applied, Liquid Vinyl is fully cured after 24 hours and is machine-washable in cold water; remove promptly and lay flat to dry.

Note: For best results, replace parchment paper and Pressing Paper as they become wrinkled from repeated use.

General Tips

  • Treated fabrics are sewable, however sewing may compromise waterproofing. It’s best to use a non-stick sewing machine foot and small, sharp needle.

  • For projects that cannot be ironed, Liquid Vinyl will be water and stain-resistant and the oilcloth finish is still achievable, however the project cannot be machine-washed.
  • For an even softer hand or more pliable finish, let final coat dry for 24 hours and then press again from the front and the back, using HeatnBond Pressing Paper or non-stick pressing sheet. Remove Pressing Paper and let cool.

Sewing Tips

For best results when machine sewing fabrics treated with HeatnBond Liquid Vinyl …

  • Use a non-stick Teflon foot or create your own DIY non-stick foot by applying a piece of transparent tape to the bottom of the foot, allowing it to glide more easily over the fabric.
  • Choose a small, sharp size 14 sewing machine needle.
  • Increase your stitch length slightly to prevent stitching from perforating the fabric.
  • Do not pin your fabric pieces together; use clips to minimize holes in the treated fabric
  • If fabric tends to stick to sewing machine surfaces, temporarily tape pieces of printer paper or tissue paper over those areas so fabric will glide more smoothly.
  • HeatnBond Iron-On Adhesives and Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Press-On Adhesives may be used on treated fabrics; pre-test for best results.
